Welcome back to Healing Women of Color. The space where we heal intentionally. grow spiritually. And learn how to protect our peace without apologizing forward. I'm your host, Kamari across. And today, we're talking about something that often goes unnoticed. Because it doesn't always arrive looking like destruction. Sometimes it comes disguised as opportunity. Sometimes it wears the face of a relationship. An old habit, a notification, a desire for closure, or even something that appears to be good. We're talking about distractions. One of the greatest strategies of the enemy isn't always to destroy your destiny. Sometimes it's simply to distract you from it. Because if he can keep your attention divided, your mind overwhelmed, your emotions consumed, your spirit exhausted. Then you'll spin your energy fighting battles. God never assign you to fight. Distractions don't always remove you from God. Destruction sometimes they simply keep you so busy that you stop hearing from him. The enemy understands something many of us overlook. and requires discernment. Whatever has your attention eventually influences your direction, and that's powerful. But God is more powerful. And today, we're going to expose distractions for what they are. Learn how to guard our focus and discover why protecting your attention. Attention is one of the most spiritual decisions you'll ever make. Let's begin with God's word. The scripture, Hebrews 12 and one through 2 says, let us throw off everything that hinders, and let us run with endurance, the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus. Notice it doesn't only say throw off sin. It says throw off everything. that hinders, everything. Some things aren't sinful. They're simply slowing you down. Holding you back. And if the enemy can get you to abandon your faith, He'll try to divert, if he can't get you to abandon your faith, he's going to try to divert your focus. If you can't make you quit, He'll convince you to delay. If he can't get you to walk away from God, what he'll do is he'll keep you so busy, so emotionally overwhelmed, so offended, so entertained, or so consumed with things that don't matter, you'll slowly drift away from what does. Another scripture says, Luke 10 and 38 through 42. Mary chose to sit at Jesus' feet. Martha was distracted by many responsibilities. Jesus didn't condemn Martha for serving. He corrected her because her focus had shifted. You can be doing good things while neglecting the best thing. And that's that's real good. Business is not the same as faithfulness. And we have to know the difference. Another scripture I'd like to pull from, is Nehemiah 6 and 3. When Nehemiah was rebuilding the wall. His enemies repeatedly tried to lure him away. His response? I'm doing a great work and cannot come down. He didn't allow anybody to distract him. And that is a powerful declaration. He understood that every invitation deserves discernment, not every conversation deserves your participation, not every conflict deserves your response. And not every opportunity deserves your yes. Another scripture. For context is Proverbs 4 and 25 through 27 says, let your eyes look straight ahead. Do not turn to the right, or to the left. See, God repeatedly tells his people to stay focused because he knows how easily our attention can drift. Distractions are rarely announced. They quietly compete for your intention until they become your priority. And sometimes distraction is obvious. Scrolling for hours, just doom scrolling. Endless entertainment, movies to TV. Concerts, you know, constant notifications. But sometimes distraction is emotional. Were you playing old conversations in your mind over and over again? waiting for closure. Trying to prove your worth to someone. wondering why someone walked away. Checking someone's social media, hoping something has changed. Distraction. And sometimes distraction is spiritual. Searching for another sermon instead of applying the last one. That's good. Studying scripture without surrendering to it. How about that one? Talking about spiritual warfare while neglecting prayer, obedience, repentance, and intimacy with God. The enemy understands something powerful. He doesn't always have to make you quit. He just has to make you lose focus. Imagine this. Imagine driving a car. Taking your eyes off the road for only a few seconds can completely change your direction. Life works the same way. Small distractions, create major detours, even tragic accidents. So I'm going to give you 7 ways that I want you to apply guarding your focus in this season. number one. Know your assignment. If you don't know what God has called you to do, everything begins to look important. Purpose, your purpose creates priorities. When you know your assignment, saying no becomes easier. Because Every opportunity is filtered through purpose instead of pressure. Ask yourself this. Is this God's assignment or just an available opportunity? If you need clarity, ask that question. Number two. Stop chasing closure that God already provided. Some people never apologize. Some relationships never make sense. Some endings never feel fair. But your healing should never depend on another person's willingness to explain themselves. God is capable of giving peace without explanation. Peace that surpasses all understanding at that. Sometimes closure is accepting that God's silence speaks louder than their excuses. Number three. Protect your attention like you protect your peace. Attention is currency. Every conversation. Every notification, every argument. Every unnecessary opinion. Of others, it costs you something. You have to be intentional about what receives your mental energy. Not everyone deserves access to your thoughts. What you're thinking, your plans. Number four, learn the spiritual power of no, saying no is not rejection or being told no is not rejection. No is protection. Jesus didn't heal every single person. He didn't visit every city. He wasn't available to every request. Even Jesus had boundaries. And if the Son of God, practice limits. Why don't we? Number five. Fast from whatever controls your attention. Sometimes we need a food fast. Sometimes we need a social media fast. Sometimes we need to fast from gossip. We need to fast from toxic relationships. Definitely. Need too fast from constantly checking on people got already removed. Whatever consistently distracts you may need distance from you. Number 6. Feed your focus before you feed your distractions. A lot of people wake up and immediately check messages, social media. email, news. You know, um, but what if we sought God's voice before the world's opinions? What if we woke up in the morning and said, Lord, I thank you for waking me up this morning? The 1st voice you hear often shapes your perspective for the day. Begin with prayer. You know, begin with scripture. Begin with worship. Feeding your spirit before feeding your schedule. is key. Number seven, remember that focus is stewardship. God entrusted you with gifts. God entrusted you with purpose. Peace. Time. Influence. He entrusted you with these things, and your responsibility is not to manage everyone else's life. Your responsibility is to faithfully stored what God placed in it, your hands. Focus honors the one who gave you the assignment. The enemy understands that delayed obedience is still disobedience. You may think you have another chance. That's disobedience. He knows that every moment spent focused on the wrong thing is a moment you're not fully engaged in the assignment God gave to you. Think about it. The devil didn't have to stop Nehemiah from rebuilding the wall. He simply tried to lure him away from it. Distract him. He didn't have to destroy Martha. He just wanted to distract her by good responsibilities while missing the greater opportunity to sit at Jesus' feet. Distraction looks harmless. It doesn't look like danger. It comes in comparison, fear, people pleasing, comfort, even ministry. And not everything that pulls on your attention deserves your obedience. The enemy knows your purpose is dangerous to the kingdom of darkness. He knows your healing, can inspire someone else to heal. He knows your obedience can break generational cycles. You know? He knows your testimony can bring someone to Christ. He knows your prayers, carry power. He knows your calling has impact. So if he can't destroy the purpose God placed inside you, he'll spend his energy trying to distract you from fulfilling it. That's why guarding your focus isn't just about productivity. It's spiritual warfare. Every distraction asks one question. Can I borrow your attention long enough to delay your destiny? Child of God. Don't underestimate the value of your focus. Your attention is sacred. Your time is sacred. Your calling is sacred. Don't surrender your destiny to temporary distractions. The enemy may have access. To your circumstances, but he does not get to dictate your direction. Okay? As long as your eyes remain fixed on Christ, your purpose remains intact, stay focused. Stay prayerful, stay discerning. Keep your hands on the assignment. I want to speak directly. To the women who is listening tonight. This season, you are no longer entertaining what interrupts your peace and no longer explaining boundaries. God told you to establish, and you are no longer chasing people who are committed to misunderstanding you. No longer responding to every invitation, every offense, every opinion or every distraction. This is your season of intentional focus. Your mind belongs to God, your peace belongs to God. Your purpose belongs to God. And you are focused. We are discerning. You are disciplined. And you are emotionally available for healing, not for unnecessary chaos. You are spiritually alert. You are becoming the woman god design before fear. Rejection, betrayal, and disappointment ever try to redefine you. You are too valuable. Too gifted. Too anointed. Come on now, too resilient. Too powerful to leave your focus, unguarded. Because what God placed inside of you deserves your full attention. And what God is preparing ahead of you requires your undivided obedience. Protect your focus, protect your peace. Protect your purpose. As you go through this week coming up, I want you to ask yourself. One question. Every morning. Is what I'm giving my attention to, moving me towards God's purpose or away from it. Because every yes costs something. Every distraction asks for your attention, every decision, shit, decision shapes your direction. And remember, The enemy doesn't always attack with destruction. Sometimes he simply whispers, look, look over there. Look over here. Don't take the bait. Keep building. Keep healing. Keep praying. Keep becoming. Like Nehemiah declared. I'm doing a great work, and I cannot. And I will not come down. If today's up and so encouraged you. Share it with another woman who needs the reminder that protecting her focus is protecting her future. Until next time. Continue choosing discernment over distraction. Boundaries over burnout and purpose over pressure. This is healing women of color, or spiritual discernment meets. Emotional boundaries. Grace. And peace.
